Muzi Town, Gangnan District: Good variety cassava intercropping with Huoxiang yields a bountiful harvest

Recently, Yang Zhiming, an economic expert from Muzi Town, Gangnan District, Guigang City, adopted a intercropping model and successfully planted high-quality cassava and huoxiang seeds, resulting in a bountiful harvest.

In the cassava planting base, the thick and tall cassava is also vigorously planted with Huoxiang, which grows well. Under the joint shaking and prying of two people, the cassava roots and stems that broke through the soil appeared thick and plump, hugging together.

Our cassava this year is Guire 13, a new variety specially launched by Guangxi Agricultural Science Institute this year. I have tried planting more than 100 acres this year, and each cassava tree can produce 40-60 kilograms. The yield of cassava planted in the trial is about 4-5 tons. If I press the branches next year, this cassava should exceed 6 tons. Our cassava fields are intercropped with Huoxiang, and this year we estimate that there are also 2000 kilograms per acre, "said Yang Zhiming.

Yang Zhiming introduced that the excellent variety of cassava Guire 13 prefers yang and huoxiang prefers yin, and the intercropping of the two crops complements each other. This model has many advantages. On the one hand, it can fully utilize land resources, achieve the common growth of two crops on the same piece of land, and improve land utilization efficiency; On the other hand, the two crops complement each other during their growth process. Huoxiang can improve the microenvironment of cassava planting areas to a certain extent, reducing the damage of pests and diseases to cassava. At the same time, cassava also provides a moderate shading environment for Huoxiang, which is conducive to its vigorous growth.

Yang Zhiming stated that this intercropping model means that for a large number of growers, it can create more economic value on limited land. Not only can it increase the yield and variety of agricultural products, but it can also reduce the market risks that single crop cultivation may face through diversified planting. This intercropping model is a good way to increase agricultural efficiency and farmers' income, and is worth promoting vigorously.
