China will establish standards for inspecting grain quality

In order to promote the application of near-infrared detection technology in grain inspection and achieve rapid quality inspection in grain procurement and circulation, the Standard Quality Center of the National Grain Administration held a seminar on the development of national standards for grain near-infrared measurement methods at Henan University of Technology on October 17, 2007. More than ten experts from Henan University of Technology, Hubei Grain and Oil Food Quality Monitoring Station, and some near-infrared instrument manufacturers attended the meeting.

According to the introduction, the attending experts unanimously agreed that the accuracy and precision of using near-infrared methods to determine the moisture and protein content of wheat, rice, and corn in China can meet the requirements based on the calibration and verification data of the main quality indicators such as moisture, protein, and amylose of wheat, rice, and corn using existing near-infrared grain quality analyzers. Therefore, the formulation of relevant national standards can be initiated. The meeting also extensively discussed the basic content of the national standard for near-infrared measurement methods, the architecture of near-infrared networks, network operation modes and specifications, and reached consensus on the accuracy, repeatability, network operation modes and main operation contents of the measurement methods. A preliminary plan for the national standard for near-infrared measurement methods and operating procedures for near-infrared networks was also formed.
