农户李先生介绍，2月28日，他代表村里民众，到位于南宁大学路广西农业科学院附近的种子经营店，购买了14吨木薯种子。种子拉回隆安第二天分发时发现。种子大小不一，大家都怀疑种子有假。因为往年购买的木薯种子，大小都比较均匀，没想到今年差别那么大。根据以往经验，“个头”大的为合格的种子，小的则被看成不合格。于是，他按照大家的意见，清理出“个头”小的种子后，拉回南宁要求退换。
商家拒绝了农户的退货要求，双方出现了僵持的局面。对此，商家方面的人员说，店里销售的木薯种子，农户购买时已验过货，没有异议后才拉回去，如今突然要求退货，他们自然不能接受。
商家人员表示，店里的木薯种子没有质量问题。农户购买种子时，商家就已经给出承诺，保证种子的发芽率达到80%以上，否则会承担相应后果。
就木薯种子的质量问题，记者采访了广西经济作物研究所。该所一位技术人员介绍，今年木薯种子大小相差那么大，与受冻灾影响有关。木薯种子质量是否有问题，主要是看种子的芽眼有没有受到损害，如果没有受到损害，那种子就属正常。种子的大小，可能对产量有一定影响，作物的长势会有所不同，但是总体上来说并不是太大。从商家向农户作出芽率达到80%的承诺看，木薯种子质量应该是没有问题的。
