Qingshu No. 9 has ranked first in potato planting area in China for two consecutive years

The reporter learned from Qinghai University that on October 30th, the 16th China International Seed Industry Expo and the 21st National Seed Information Exchange and Product Trading Fair opened. At the fair, the list of the top ten varieties of rice, wheat, corn, soybeans, winter rapeseed, peanuts, potatoes and other agricultural products promoted in 2023 was released. Qingshu 9, developed by a potato research team led by researcher Wang Jian from Qinghai University, has topped the national potato planting area with 7.17 million mu, an increase of 1.13 million mu from 2022 (6.04 million mu), and has been ranked first in the national potato planting area for two consecutive years.

In recent years, the potato research team has vigorously implemented the action of revitalizing the high-altitude seed industry, continuously increasing the research on potato germplasm resources, new product selection, and seed potato production. With collaborative innovation, joint research and development, and joint construction and sharing as the starting point, and the goal of connecting the industry, academia, and research chain, we have strengthened the construction of the sweet potato seed potato breeding system and seed potato breeding base, and accelerated the transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements in the potato industry. This year, the average yield per mu of Qingshu 9 in Xinjiang's high-yield demonstration reached 6508.93 kilograms, setting a new record for the domestic planting yield of Qingshu 9. Its promotion and application have important promoting significance for further improving the quality and efficiency of agriculture in western China, ensuring national food security, and assisting rural revitalization.
